Brunch is quite controversial

Is it brunch a big thing in New York?!

If you live in New York (no matter the borough I guess), where everyone seems to be from somewhere else, somehow you feel like living one big rerun of “Sex and the city” or  “Friends”, because here in the “greatest city in the world”, friends have become family and BRUNCH the family gathering. Of course, the friends are not a problem, but brunch is! First in first (being from somewhere else but here) it will take a while for you to understand what exactly brunch is. Why everybody wants to meet you for brunch…or “we should have brunch sometime”…why not lunch? Or dinner??? What is this brunch thing’s purpose? To drink a cocktail (specifically mimosa one) in the middle of the day? To eat poached eggs or magniloquently called them eggs Benedict? Because this is pretty much what you can order from brunch menus…some variation of mimosas and eggs Benedict.I admit that I have found myself among the hordes on plenty of occasions. A  particularly memorable fondue brunch in Chelsea that began at noon and broke up in a dive bar-hours later comes to mind. What possessed me to do so? I have just been stuck in the middle of “doing what everybody does”(which I hate) and trying to better understand the meaning of brunch. And I jumped to the conclusion that basically brunch is a form of rejecting adulthood, that desire of waking up late, having cocktails at breakfast and eggs all day….brunch is not about mealtime…is just a lifestyle of urban sophistication. It is just a wierd desire of living an adolescent life for ever.
