New York, New York….l love you and l hate you at the same time! When l have come here for the first time l fell in love with this city .. love at first side …in a way that l will never forget and l will never love another city the same way!
Having that weird feeling that l belong in a place where l have never been before made me stay!?! I have no idea…all l know is that the city caught me from the very beginning and l just fell for it …
Skyscrapers, city-lights, kind people, landmarks, Broadway shows, shopping paradise, restaurants with delicious food, street vendors, outdoor concerts, in-park/train dancers (or other type of performers), graffiti… art-galleries, fashion-industry, exhibitions, museums and theaters, beaches, boat-rides, helicopter-tours ..did l miss anything?! Fascinating and sophisticated and extraordinary and spectacular and just unbelievable! Everything you can imagine at a snap of your finger!
Did I pass that stage? Yes and no….l still loving it but l also got to know its downsides….and sometimes l feel more like l caught a virus than that initial infinite love …how can l explain this? To me “hate” is a strong word and l constantly avoid using it…or if l do, is just to be the opposite of “love”… as a matter of fact, honestly there are a lot of things that l do not like in this city! Those things that can make anyone feel overwhelmed! Such as the constant noise and crowds, hard-working men and women trying to make a living, dirty subway stations and smelly homeless, rush hours, heavy traffic and people on the street rushing around looking for action, or just the fact that ” something in the New York air makes sleep useless” – as somebody (don’t remember whom!) stated. Or as Fran Lebowitz said: “when you leave New York you are astonished at how clean the rest of the world is; clean is not enough”.
But you have to live here to realize this, otherwise everything seems simply amazing !
